Homesick
Personal Archival footage, archived voicemails, and memory
Time Based Media, 2024
Homesick presents a piece installed as a letter to the flickers of grief, loss, belonging, and home. This piece redefines the language of what it means to be homesick, grieving, and how that language manifests.
With this piece, I really wanted to explore how memory presents itself to me whether that be in the form of memory flashbacks, saved voicemails, location and weather specificity, and sensory exploration. The feeling of homesickness and grief is not linear but it is an ongoing journey. In a way, this piece was my way of inviting you into the maze that is my mind. My body of work often dives in and between the tapestry that is my identity. I am fascinated by the blurring of reality and idealism, and the use of words to weave the two together.
Homesickness and grief go hand in hand in snapshots of what we remember and the flashes that come with that feeling. . .
and with drowning.
Thank you for walking down my path of memories.
